Our Priorities

New Improved Work from Home Policies

We have partnered with Census Leadership to create a new telework policy and are currently working on a new remote work policy. The new policies will allow employees to work from home more often and to work from anywhere in the United States.

New Collective Bargaining Agreement

Council 241 is negotiating a new CBA (Collective Bargaining Agreement) that will improve on the policy from our current CBA. The goal is to agree to new terms in the next year that will improve the lives of our employees.

Organizing Regional and Field Employees to Include Them in Our Existing Bargaining Unit

Council 241 plans to organize all Census employees who are not currently organized. Regardless of your geographic location, our vision is that all Census employees deserve representation.

Transform The National Processing Center (NPC)

We are partnering with the Census Leadership to transform and bring in new work to NPC. We are rethinking the mission to include exciting new things for employees to work on. We also are looking at opportunities to improve the working conditions and the pay of employees.

As a member of AFGE, I feel like I have a voice to make a difference and continuously improve the workplace for my fellow colleagues and myself!

Mary Ana McKay, AFGE 2782

I joined the Union not long after my employment in Census around 2002-2003, at that time, I was encouraged by my fellow colleagues who were members and I wanted to see what the union was all about. Fast forward to 2023 and I’m still part of a great team of people who are very engaged and dedicated to helping out its members in any way they can. A highly trustworthy and loyal group that know when to take it to the table and also have fun during our many yearly events both online and in person.

Erica Coates , AFGE 2782

I choose to be a member of my union because I need the support and ability to fight for our rights. Without the union, there would be no protection.
